Child Safety at Cairns Psychology Group

At Cairns Psychology Group, children’s safety and wellbeing always come first.
We want every child and young person to feel safe, respected, and supported when they come to us for help.

We follow Queensland’s Child Safe Standards and the Universal Principle of cultural safety. This means we make sure our spaces, services, and people are safe, welcoming, and inclusive for all children, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children.

Our Commitment to Children and Families

  • Safety is our priority – we have zero tolerance for abuse, neglect, exploitation, racism, or discrimination.
  • We listen to children – their voices matter, and they are supported to speak up.
  • Families are partners – we value open communication and work together to keep children safe.
  • Everyone belongs – we respect cultural identity, diversity, disability, gender, and language needs.
  • Safe staff and safe spaces – all staff and clinicians have Blue Cards, training, and follow strict codes of conduct.
  • Continuous improvement – we regularly review and update our policies to make sure they reflect best practice.

  • Listening to Children – we provide child-friendly resources, suggestion boxes, and safe ways for children to share their thoughts.
  • Working with Families & Communities – we keep families informed, involve them in planning, and partner with local communities and Elders.
  • Cultural Safety – we actively create culturally safe environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families feel welcome, valued, and respected.
  • Safe People – Everyone working with us: – Holds a valid Blue Card and professional registration – Completes child safety, cultural safety, and trauma-informed care training. – Follows our Code of Conduct, which sets clear rules about safe, respectful behaviour.

Raising Concerns or Making a Complaint

We want children, parents, and community members to feel confident in speaking up if something doesn’t feel right.

You can raise a concern or make a complaint in several ways:

  • Talk to any staff member or manager.
  • Write to us by email, letter, or using our complaints form.
  • Submit feedback online.
  • Use child-friendly options such as a suggestion box or visual forms.
  • Stay anonymous if you prefer.

What Happens Next

  1. We listen and record your concern.
  2. We act quickly – urgent safety issues are referred immediately to the right authorities.
  3. We investigate fairly – with cultural safety and confidentiality in mind.
  4. We keep you informed – you’ll receive updates on progress and outcomes.
  5. We learn and improve – feedback helps us strengthen our systems.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can ask for a review or take your complaint to external bodies such as AHPRA, ACA, PACFA, AASW, the Queensland Ombudsman, or the Human Rights Commission.
